HAPPY VICTORY DAY

The comrades of the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) and the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) marked 9th of May, the Victory Day over fascism, by laying flowers and holding a march at the Cemetery of the Liberators of Belgrade. This year, NKPJ and SKOJ dedicated Victory Day not only to the fighters who, 80 years ago, defeated Hitler’s United Europe, but also to the struggle against contemporary imperialism embodied in the European Union, NATO and Israeli Zionism.

At this gathering, NKPJ and SKOJ emphasized that the so-called “European values” are not anti-fascism, solidarity, and equality, but rather that the EU today enables strengthening of fascism, both through military and financial support for the fascist junta in Kiev, as well as through the banning of communist parties (for example in the Czech Republic and the Baltic countries). Particularly scandalous are the bans on communist and anti-fascist symbols during Victory Day celebrations in Berlin, as well as the brutal attack by neo-Nazis against members of the 23rd September Movement from Bulgaria. It is clear that EU today is a prison of nations that denies sovereignty not only to its member states, but also to surrounding countries, including Serbia.

NKPJ and SKOJ also used Victory Day to point out the danger of the war spreading across Europe, and on that occasion highlighted messages against the nuclear escalation of the war in Ukraine, as well as the existance of NATO and the Kiev fascist regime. Our activists, as well as other participants at the gathering, demonstrated clear support for Russia, which for the past four years has been fighting not only local Ukro-fascists, but also Western imperialism. The task of the peoples of Europe, including people of Serbia, is to prevent their bourgeoisie from using them as cannon fodder in a war against Russia, and also to prevent by all possible means a Western victory in Ukraine, because the defeat and weakening of imperialism are necessary preconditions for the strengthening and final victory of the working class in Europe and the rest of the World.

NKPJ and SKOJ continue the struggle against the revision of history, which in recent years has been gaining momentum in Serbia as well, not only because of external influences, but also because of the open re-writing of history by the authorities in Serbia. Preserving the memory of Soviet soldiers and partisan fighters does not only mean paying tribute to those who gave their lives for the ideals of freedom and socialism that we still uphold today – it also means fighting against contemporary neo-Nazism in Serbia, and ultimately resisting attempts to use the Serbian people for the realization of imperialist goals in Ukraine, as well as in Palestine and the rest of West Asia, on the Korean Peninsula, and in Taiwan.
